United Market - Gundagai
Gundagai Market
About the Team

Meet the current members of the Uniting Church that helped make these markets come alive:

Phil Hockridge - Market Treasurer - Elder of the Uniting Church, has lived in Gundagai for more than 34 years. Phil also volunteers for the Red Cross and has served as their Treasurer for more than 10 years. He is also a member of other communtiy groups. Phil and his wife Lucy live next door to the Church. Phil has worked for the Uniting Church for most of his life and has taken services at the Church on occasion up to  September 2008 when it celebrated the Churches centenary birthday. Phil helped re-open the Church April '09 by taking the Good Friday Service. Phil and his mates built the Uniting Church Hall in 2002 which is now used by many community groups.

John McGruer -Grows the pumpkins & makes the jams on our Church table - from Brungle is the Uniting Church Elder and honourary Steward, having come over from the old Presbyterian Church. John has served as a Mason for more than 65 years and has worked in many community groups in the region. He visits his friends at Uralba and the hospital in Gundagai every Sunday and regularly visits the aged care facilities on Tuesday in Tumut and weekends in Wagga. John is famous for his wonderful pumpkins and beautiful vegies and he makes his own jams and relish from produce he grows himself which he regularly gives to people he visits. He also donates his products to the Church stall to help run the market. A big favourite at the July market was his Shirley Poppies and Lark Spur.

Jean Steenholdt comes all the way form Batlow to support our church and is always at hand to help with anything we organise. Jean not only feeds our tummys on Sunday, she warms our hearts. She loves to dance and enjoys a good chat.

Robert Dunlop - Market Helper - has been a member of the Uniting Church for 20 years, having come from a Methodist upbringing. Robert is a local Senior Constable in Gundagai and thoroughly enjoys country policing. Although work keeps Robert  busy most weekends, he is always there to offer help and support when off-duty.

Kerryn Dunlop- Market Co-Ordinator - is a baptised member of the Uniting Church, having come over from the Presbyterian Church in the early '70's.
The United Market is co-ordinated by Kerryn who is also our Lay Presider of Sacraments and Pastoral Carer. Kerryn re-opened the Uniting Church for Services Easter in 2009 on a voluntary basis with the blessings of Riverina Presbytery. Services were held weekly until June 2010 when they were reduced to the 2nd and 4th Sundays with Phil at 9:30am. Kerryn completed a non-denominational Doctorate of Divinity and a Masters in Rotai and also has experience as a Nurse working in the fields of Palliative Care, Aged Care and Dimentia and Mental Health & Disabilites. Kerryn has a strong background in business management and marketing and has owned and managed many businesses before taking up work in the Child Care industry in areas of Koori Kindergarten programs, family day care, foster respite care, and work in
Family Support Centres. Kerryn owns her own business and moved to town when her husband took a country posting at the local police station.  Kerryn's belief is her "Church" has no walls and she works tirelessly in the Community to prove just that and is always inventing new ideas for "outreach". Singalongs at URALBA on 2nd & 4th Wednesdays at 10:30am is another one.
Kerryn sees the community market as a way of not only helping people in the community have an outlet for their home produce but also helping local charities. Kerryn says the community Market has a way of connecting with the Community and bringing the community together to help each other and help raise funds for local charitable organisations.
Please come and help support this wonderful cause.
Rob & Kerryn
